What I do
virtual mental health counseling

“The gentlest reminder: You might not need to read another self-help book, attend another training, or bookmark another Instagram post as much as you need to listen to, trust, and practice what you already know. What if the answer you’re looking for is actually within you already?”
Lisa Olivera

Hey, I’m Karla! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Texas. I am passionate about supporting individuals on their unique mental health journey. My approach is eclectic, blending a wide variety of therapeutic modalities to meet needs efficiently and effectively.
With a background in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Person-Centered therapy, and strength-based therapy, I draw from a diverse toolkit to help navigate challenges. I am well-trained in clinical mental health counseling and offering a detailed diagnostic process. Though, the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance; so I believe in the power of collaboration to develop a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

Intake
A mental health intake appointment is the initial session where your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy are discussed. During this meeting, you’ll complete some assessments and share any relevant history, which helps with understanding your unique situation. The intake sets the foundation for your therapeutic journey, ensuring a tailored approach to your mental health needs.
Individual Sessions
During an individual appointment, you’ll have a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. You’ll be met with active listening, support, and helping you identify patterns or challenges you may be facing. Together, we’ll work on developing strategies and coping skills tailored to your unique situation and goals for personal growth.

Treatment Planning
The mental health treatment planning process begins after the thorough assessment of your needs, goals, and any challenges you’re facing. Together, we collaboratively set specific, measurable objectives and determine the best therapeutic approaches to help you achieve them. This plan will be reviewed and adjusted as needed to ensure it remains aligned with your progress and evolving needs.
Care Coordination
Care coordination involves collaborating with other healthcare providers to ensure a holistic approach to your treatment. This process includes sharing relevant information, tracking progress, and making necessary adjustments to your care plan based on your evolving needs. A mental health therapist serves as a central point of contact, helping to facilitate communication and ensure that all aspects of your health and well-being are addressed.

FAQs
How are the sessions conducted?
Sessions are conducted online via secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platforms, ensuring convenience and accessibility. These platforms are through Grow Therapy and Doxy. I collaborate with Grow Therapy, who handles my billing and assists with some marketing efforts.
What even happens in therapy?
The first appointment consists of information gathering so I can get to know you. While the second appointment offers time to build a treatment plan – goal planning – together, I take time to continue learning more about your unique needs. Subsequent appointments are based on the agreed upon plan, your life events, and what you bring to the table each session.
What commitment is required?
Clients are expected to attend appointments at least monthly. However, session frequency depends upon each individual’s needs.
What results can I expect from therapy?
Some common results include improved emotional well-being, enhanced coping skills, improved esteem, healthier relationships, goal achievement, stress reduction, behavioral changes, and increased resilience. This list isn’t all inclusive as results vary widely.
How much does a session cost?
My cash rate is $95 per session. Though, I am in-network with many insurances and this could drastically reduce your out-of-pocket cost. Please see the Insurance section for details.
How do I schedule an appointment?
To start, you can use the contact form above, or you can see the very next section to begin your journey.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Overall, if you’re making progress toward your goals, feel comfortable trusting your therapist, and find the session to be a safe space, you’re likely on the right path. On a day-to-day basis, you might notice gradual changes, like reduced anxiety about a specific issue or increased enjoyment in your daily activities. However, it’s important to keep in mind that progress can look different for everyone.
Who can benefit from therapy?
You might find therapy helpful if you’ve been diagnosed with mental health conditions, are navigating difficult life transitions, are coping with grief or loss, are facing relationship challenges, are experiencing burnout, or have a history of trauma. The potential benefits of therapy are extensive, and anyone looking for additional, unbiased support may gain from the experience.
